In this final blog, I am going to provide you with some important aspect of the course. I divided this reflection into 5 parts. We will talk about our portfolio (process and product), and some examples of genres we have explored, the central rhetorical concepts, and our motivation for composing. Then we will conclude. Before starting this course, our teacher went through the process. He explained us that it is important for us to meet deadline. He gave an overview of what our grade will look like if we did not take seriously his advice. He told us that our portfolio in the process we go through our writing, the product or everything that we use to organize, plan, and build our website. We explored many genres in this class. First of all, we talked about the web page (weebly.com). Before this class I did not know anything about this website. It was an opportunity for us to create our web page with a username and a password. The web page includes home page, about, formal assignment pages, contact page. The home page gives a raison we created this website. The “About” allowed a readers to know our personality. One of the things I never done before was to answers to “The Proust Questionnaire”. I struggled with those 35 questions one week before completing. The formal assignment page (Narrative Project and Research Project) follows many processes to arrive to the final result. In the Narrative project, a student has at least two drafts to write. We explored in this section Rhetorical mode (narration), Genre (creative nonfiction, Sub-genre (Memoir/ Fan fiction) and the Purpose is to Persuade, Inform and Entertain. The writer’s choice were context (setting), text (opening with scene or symbols for example), and subtext (themes, conflict). The important thing on this part are the process (revising your own blogs and the blogs comments, reading assignment), and the product (the check list ) that allowed student to evaluate his work. The Research project section was about gratitude. I always hear about gratitude but I did know anything about the “Three Good Things”. We explored in this section the Rhetorical method (Argumentation), Genre (MLA Research paper), and the Thesis that communicate the TPS (Topic, Position, and Support). The structure (Introduction, Literature Review, Finding section, conclusion) was well-organize. For helping us getting a good result, our teacher gave us opportunity to form different groups (about 4 students) in class. I come to realized that it was a good idea to be closely with others students and share your work. The tools that our teacher gave us were really helpful. We covered the central rhetorical concepts such as Ethos, logos, Kairos, and telos. We also explored PIE (Persuade, Inform, and Entertain), description, exposition, argumentation and narration. I learned from this course that there are many motives for composing. We compose to make meaning, to make sense of the word, to join academic conversations, to create social connection, to apply authorial choice in writing and life. Overall this class was benefits for me as a student, and also for my future carrier. A friend of mine read one of the formal assignment’s sheets. Here is what he told me, “This is one of the best and well-organized narrative projects, I have never seen“. It means that if you follow the process, you will not have problem to compose and to make meaning. I learned how to be more productif and effecient in my carrier. The element that I was not able to do it was Vlog. I was never taken video of myself. It was not only based on the belief but it also a cultural issue. It is something I have to work on.

On this blogs, I am going to talk about the process that I use in my research project. After the meeting with my group, "DELCO'S FINEST", I make a schedule for my research project. With my teacher's advice, I register for tutoring. Here is my finding
The “Three good things” process helps me to be more responsible to my family. Martin Seligman in a field of positive psychology defined PERMA as the building blocks of well-being and happiness: Positive emotions – feeling good Engagement – being completely absorbed in activities Relationships – being authentically connected to others Meaning – purposeful existence Achievement – a sense of accomplishment and success (Neutrino) During the week of three good things, my database showed a high percentage of “positive emotion “(Blog #10). It means, I was mostly with my family. The stressful time was offset by the nice time that we spent for dinner, riding and playing with my 17 months old boy. I saw how my son persevered when he faced the challenge games. “According to positive psychology, love, joy, affection, and amusement are four components of twenty-six examples of positive emotion. (“Positive Emotion”). This means that we cannot be happy without expressing affection for our loved one. It also says that if a family takes time to play, they can improve their life. For example, on Thanksgiving day, families travel from one place to another to be together. It is not enough. Our well-being depends on the time we spend with our family. How many families were separated because one is too busy to care about another? How many families could not talk to each other because one cannot recognize the effort that another was doing? Well-being, gratitude is to care about your lovely one, to give him affection, and to show him how much you love. Our well-being depends on our ability to build stronger relationship. The three good things process helps me to build relationships with friends. It helps me by keeping me connected to my friends. During this week, I felt like I had to be good at everything. I tried to understand which of my behaviors that I wrote down needed more attention. I questioned myself, how many time I said thank you to someone who helped me. Every time that I wrote down I challenged myself to be more friendly with my friends the next day. For example, on the day 05/11, in the morning, when I arrived to my workplace, I asked my co-worker Herni if I was a grateful person and why? Here is it answer, “I worked with you about two years, you never asked me some kind of questions. This week I see that you tried to talk with your friends during lunch time. Every time you were alone, I was surprised”. It is true what she said. I was completely a different person during this time, and tried to be a better person that before. Our gratitude remains on our accomplishment. The “Three good things” process helps me to meet my career goals. One of the elements of PERMA is Accomplishment. By writing this down I know what I have done during the day. The more the accomplishment is higher, the more my satisfaction. In my journal, the first day was not completed because I did not do my homework. When I wrote down something, I was able to finish my homework next day. When you keep daily the record of your accomplishments, you know exactly your ability to perform tasks in your workplace. In this blog #13, I am presenting a draft of my introduction. After presenting my introduction to my group, my team make some recommendation for improving. It was found that my introduction have a hook, I mention the "three good things", my introduction end with TPS thesis statement, and the thesis statement reference that the "three good thing" work for me. However I have to give more information about the "three good thing" process. I should also write the title of each section for example, Introduction for this section. I realized that the fact that we work in the small group was really helpful and the "Informal Presentation Feedback" sheet gave by the teacher was important for the process.
Here is my first draft introduction: Can the “Three Good Things’’ gratitude process has a positive impact on my well-being? A new poll found that more 90% of American agreed that grateful people are more fulfilled, lead richer lives, and are more likely to have friends (Elianna, Jeremy Adam Smith). As advised by Martin Seligman, a positive Psychologist, I wrote down each day, everything that went well for me that day. I realized that gratitude is the most important thing in our life. “The three goods things” process have a positive impact on my well-being because it helps to be more responsible to my family, build a good relationship with friends, and meet my career goals. Here is the Informal Presentation Feedback ipf_introduction.jpg On this blog, I am writing about research project. The three important point that we have seen in class are Source material, Intext citations, and my paper. Reference picture below. As you can see on this picture It is important in this stage to show where you get the information from. whenever you summarize(tell in few word the story for example), paraphrase(Using some word of the book or document to explain the story) or using Direct Quote (Take the original words from the source), you should give credibility to your source.
According to the teacher, here are examples of citations: 1- Parenthetical citation: (Doe 73) 2- Embedded citation: appears in the body of the sentence(Reference picture below) 3- If you summarize in your own word: ---------------------------. In this blog, I am writing to Dr Seligman about his PERMA theory. At the beggining of the class, our teacher asked us to write him an open letter. It is a free writing, five minutes. I talk in this letter about my 7 days experience and asked him to help me understand more about hapiness and the negative situations DCCC 06 November, 2018
Dear Dr Seligman I am writing this letter because I read your theory about a Positive Psychology. While reading, I wrote every day three positive things that happening to me, such as talking to my best friend, spending time with my family, and helping others. I realised that this king of exercise Is really helpful. It helps me to improve my personal live and bring me happiness. However it is not easy to do everyday, because most of time we do thing that it waste our time ,and there are also many negative situations that interefer with these positive situations. What do to you advice me? I thing we have to care more about something we can change like, when you need money, you work, and you get pay. But something we cannot change should be remove out of our mind to give us more happiness. What do you thing? I do also believe that our hapiness do not onl y depend on money but it also to make sure that we balance as well our private life and professional life. I hope my letter get you well. Sincerely yours Temadji Kantangar In this blog post, I am using two important documents to enter my seven days'experience and analysing the data: What is positive Psychology, and Three good Things. Dated journal entry I use the score from 1 to 10 to show how often I use PERMA 11/5 11/4 11/3 11/2 11/1 10/31 10/30 Total % P 10 10 4 4 7 10 10 55 25.94 E 5 5 10 10 3 9 9 51 24.05 R 2 2 3 3 5 8 6 29 13.70 M 8 8 1 1 6 7 7 38 17.92 A 3 3 7 7 8 6 5 39 18.39 Total 212 100 When analyzing this data most of time I use "Positive emotions"(about 26%). Engagement(flow) seems likely be not far as well as Positive emotions. Relationship was the least of all the data. It means that I did not developed enough relationship to meet the standard of PERMA. It is likely be the about 50% of "P". Meaning and Accomplish seem be the third range of after Pand E, show that I did not enough to attend my goal during this seven days. For meeting the standard of PERMA, I do believe that ones could atleat reach 70 % of his accomplish. What do you thing , dear Katina Galante, Seth Greiner, and Devon Hedges? 5/11/18 1. Question and answers
First I took a second look of my idea. I cut, changed, or moved information to make meaning. Second, I looked at the idea I expressed. I look at the punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure
On this blog, I am going to use What is a Found Poem, and my Narrative Project to found poem. Here is my Found poem draft#1 from original document and the Found poem I walked into my UNICEF’s manager office.
“Have a sit. What’s wrong?” he said. I sat in one of his black visitor’s chair. I told him that I was not able to make a decision. Surprisingly he said, “I do not expect that. However, the final decision is in your hand. I went back to my office. I could not work properly this day. Hey! I have an Idea. I emailed my co-worker Blandine and Achille. We sat in a friend’s business place. I explained them my issues. “Here is the thing. Taking risk is not bad” Achille said. Blandine replied, “Achille is right! But stay with UNICEF Achille and Blandine had different points of view. It was almost 7: 10pm, time for leaving. I went home without clear decision. I went to the bed at 11:00pm. I could not sleep. I have to talk to my big brother Boulo I entererd into the third apartment, and sat in his red cough, “What brings you so early?” he said. “Hi big brother”, I replied. “I would like your support. I gave him the documents. I will call you and together we will make a final decision”. I found your idea wonderful. I left his house with a clear Idea. Decision in 5 days. I requested a Monday off from my manager. My cell phone ring. I picked up. I am calling about your contract. Stay with UNICEF”, he said. I tell them the story I went to the HR office. I signed a new contract and took an original and gave her a copy. I walked out; I called my big brother Boulo, and tell him the story. I made a right decision . After presenting my first draft in class, I received a feedback from my classmates and teacher. I realized that my story should flow across DAT. It means Description, Action and Time. I decided to change completely my story. Sixteen months ago, this story happened to my family.
Sixteen months ago on February 16, 2017, this story happened to my family. My wife Joyce and I were at Mount Sinai hospital, New York , waiting for our son to be born. I crossed the street to by a tea two blocks away. My cell phone rang, but I missed it. When it rang a second time [ cell phone ring ]. II picked up. It was my wife. She was crying. “What's happening?” I said. There was no answers. She was crying. I could no more finished my tea. I could not finish my tea. I ran to Joyce’s room to see what was making her cry. When I arrived in her room, everybody was waiting for me. When I entered, my wife said:"The Doctor need your decision for C section In a following 30 minutes.” “They want to what?” I replied. I was so unfamiliar with a C-section and Joyce was so upset about the decision. In America C-sections are common; unfortunately they are uncommon in Chad. I could not tell you how determined Joyce had been to have your son “naturally.” Dr. Charley, a very pretty 55 year old woman, with blond hair and brown eyes was in the room(five feets square , white paint) with her team – Spoke to me face to face: “Temadji. Am I correct with your name?” Yes, I replied. Then Dr. Charley said, “we tried almost 24 hours to get your baby. Our record indicates that if we wait again one more hour, either you will lose your baby or your wife. We could wait longer only if you want to. But you will be responsible. We give you 15 minutes to decide" Woooooodrr... The door closed. I had a broken heart. I could no more talk to my wife because she never stop crying. It was a first difficult decision in my life. I came, stayed on beside her bed , And I said: " Everything’s gonna be ok. Give me a minute. I am going to inform your uncle" Clock! clock!. I looked at the clock. It was 3: 25 pm. Ten minutes left to decide. I walked near the window, and called her 52 year old uncle, who is a doctor in Chad. He witnessed our marriage. Hey brother in law I said, and talked in French: Nous sommes a l'hôpital, Joyce doit être operer. Quelle est ta position?(I explain him situation and ask him his point of view) He said: what ever you decide I am with you. It was Almost 3: 35 pm. Time was over to decide. I went back in the room. Door opening... Woooodr. A doctor's team enterred. Dr. Charley: What is your final decision? Temadji: Go ahead, I have no problem if this is an only solution. Charley: All right. The C section will begin at 3: 50pm. Hopefully, by 5: 00pm, we should be finished. Sam and Mike, she said; make sure that Joyce is ready for next ten 10 minutes. 3: 40 pm, they took my wife to the C section room. I was waiting in front? of the black door. Five minutes later, a young woman, brought me a nose mask, a pair of gloves and clothes and said: " I will be back to find you in five minutes. Make sure you are ready". I had no time to ask her name, I had no memory, how old she looked like. The only thing I remembered is (remembered was) her shoes. She wore a black boots like a cowboy in westerns film. What will happen? I asked myself. I had no idea. It was 3: 50pm, this young woman came and said: "Let's go. Everything is ready, she added". I could not asked her , what was ready. Because she ran after seconds. When we arrived, she opened the door, a black door, with no window. I saw many mechanic around. There was small table with a scale and weight. On the left of the room, I saw a big machinery that hided all body of my wife.Only her head out. I had never seen something like that in my entire life. I sad near my wife' head. I put my hand on her hair and said: Are you fine? She said : yes I am. I look a head, I could not see what they were doing, but only their bodies' languages. I understood that when the surgeon needed something, she used her hand. It was 4:30pm. I heard waouh!! Waouh!! He is so big, wonderful baby, they said. Waii waiii.....waiiii[ crying]. It was the first sign of the living thing. I realized at this moment that I am a father but did I had to enjoyed it? No. ,.No not yet . Because the C section is not over. They were still working. I got to hold Yoshera Ebenezer my baby. He was 3, 5 pounds. After 10 minutes, they put and identical number on the hand of baby, my wife’s hand and my hand. They took the baby for the nursery in another room. 5:00pm the C section was over. We went back to our room, waiting to move to a new room. But we could not leave the hospital before one week. In our life we always deal with some situations, the important thing is to handle carefully what you are going through and make sure you make a right decision. |
